The Contemporary Ceramic Studios Association (CCSA), a not-for-profit trade association serving the needs of ceramic and paint your own pottery (PYOP) studios and suppliers worldwide, has wrapped up its 2017 annual convention and raised $28,417 for charity.
The convention, which took place from August 25-28 at the Kierland Westin hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona, brought together hundreds of PYOP studio owners, as well as several exhibitors who serve the PYOP marketplace. It also featured nearly 60 classes on topics such as business development, art techniques and more.
Per tradition, the CCSA also took the opportunity at its annual convention to raise funds for a charity that was selected by the association’s board, from recommendations submitted by CCSA members. This year’s beneficiary of a fundraising gala that included an auction, raffle and live band and dancing was Believe Big, a not-for-profit organization founded by Ivelisse and Jimmy Page. Established in 2011, after Ivelisse’s battle with Stage IV colon cancer, Believe Big’s mission is to bridge the gap between conventional and complementary medicine for fighting cancer, and provide patients with hope, help and healing.
“Each year when our annual convention ends, I tell myself that it can’t possibly get any better — but it always does!” commented CCSA executive director Dena Pearlman. “I’m grateful to everyone who made this our best convention ever, and I’m especially proud of our members who once again stepped up and raised funds for an important and inspiring cause.”
“Our annual convention is the premier event for contemporary ceramic studios,” commented CCSA board president Wendy Pettys. “It was four great days of networking, education, and of course, the amazing fundraising gala.”
The CCSA’s 2018 annual convention will be held next September 14-17 in St. Charles, Missouri. Additional details including hotel information and online registration will be published on the CCSA’s in spring 2018.
For additional information, including inquiries about launching a CCSA-member PYOP studio, contact Dena Pearlman at (888) 291-2272 or dena(at)ccsaonline.com.

Horizon Day Camp is a full-summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings, provided completely free of charge.
Providing memorable summers since 2006 for children ages 3 1/2–16, Sunrise Day Camps bring the simple pleasures of childhood back to children struggling with cancer, changing months of loneliness and isolation into summers filled with sunshine, laughter and happiness. And because Sunrise is a day camp, it does all this while allowing the children to continue their medical treatment and enjoy the comfort and safety of their own homes at night. There are currently seven Day Camps — three in New York (Long Island, Pearl River & Staten Island), three in Israel (Beit Yehoshuah, Be’er Sheva & Ramat Yochanan) and Horizon Day Camp in Baltimore, Maryland. Sunrise Association Day Camps are affiliated with 30 renowned hospitals and medical centers. Sunrise Sundays and Fun-days offer children exciting activities and events when school is not in session; Sunrise on Wheels is a one-of-a-kind program that provides hours of Sunrise-fun to children undergoing treatment in pediatric oncology units of participating hospitals.

Did you know that 95 percent of cancer cases are directly linked to diet and lifestyle?
The Metabolic Approach to Cancer is the book we have been waiting for―it offers an innovative, metabolic-focused nutrition protocol that actually works. Naturopathic, integrative oncologist and cancer survivor Dr. Nasha Winters and nutrition therapist Jess Higgins Kelley have identified the ten key elements of a person’s “terrain” (think of it as a topographical map of our body) that are crucial to preventing and managing cancer.
