Breathing for Life: The Oxygen Mask Principle and a Revolutionary Product

Losing a loved one, especially someone as passionate as a pilot, can profoundly shape one’s perspective on life. In this recent Food for Thought Nutrition Webinar, Stacy Fritz shared personal insights inspired by her brother’s journey as a Southwest pilot and his battle with illness.

The focus of this webinar is on the Oxygen Mask Principle and the importance of self-care, leading to the development of a unique product. Watch the webinar below.

HIGHLIGHTS

The Oxygen Mask Principle:

  • Self-care as a Priority: The speaker emphasized that self-care is not selfish but a priority. Without taking care of ourselves, we cannot effectively support others.
  • Cancer Journey Analogy: Drawing parallels to the oxygen mask on a plane, the speaker highlighted the importance of temporarily tapping out of the chaos of a cancer journey to rejuvenate.

The Importance of Self-Care During a Cancer Journey:

  • Overwhelm and Information Bombardment: Acknowledging the overwhelming nature of a cancer diagnosis, the speaker stressed the need for both patients and caregivers to don their own oxygen masks, finding moments of balance.
  • Wine Breath Relaxation Technique: Introducing a practical relaxation technique, the speaker encouraged taking a break, using the “wine breath” for rejuvenation.

The Journey of Healing Through Breath:

Healing Without Reliance on Painkillers: The speaker shared her brother’s determination to heal without heavy reliance on painkillers, driven by his passion for flying. The Challenge of Teaching Breath Techniques: Describing the difficulty of teaching breath techniques to a stressed individual, especially one not accustomed to such practices.

The Birth of a Revolutionary Product:

  • A Dream-Inspired Solution: Before her brother’s passing, the speaker had a dream that led to a revolutionary idea for a product that would teach breath techniques with visual and kinesthetic cues.
  • Introducing the VitaBall: The product, called the VitaBall, is a handheld device designed to aid in breath techniques. It features five different breath techniques, each represented by a color, and utilizes light and vibration for a more immersive experience.

The VitaBall:

  • A Tribute to Love and Breath: Unique Features: The VitaBall, set to launch in January 2024, offers a tactile and visual experience. The user-friendly device includes buttons for various breath techniques, accompanied by vibrant lights and vibrations.
  • Giving Back: A portion of the proceeds from the VitaBall’s sale will go to Believe Big, tying the product back to a cause and honoring the speaker’s brother.

This webinar not only touched on the importance of self-care and the Oxygen Mask Principle but also unveiled an innovative product, the VitaBall. Inspired by Stacy Fritz’s deep love for her brother and a commitment to breath-based healing, the speaker invites viewers to explore a new way to nurture their well-being.

Daniel Wellington’s Journey: Embracing Joy Amidst the Cancer Battle

Cancer, a formidable opponent that strikes fear in the hearts of many, challenges individuals not just physically but also emotionally, spiritually, and mentally.

Despite the harrowing fight, incredible stories of resilience and strength often emerge, inspiring us all. One such tale is that of Daniel Wellington, a brave soul who faced stage four sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, with no effective conventional treatment available. Today, we dive into Daniel’s extraordinary journey, discovering the profound lessons and moments that have shaped his approach to life.

The Initial Discovery
In 2019, Daniel’s life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, extra skeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma. Initially experiencing chest pains, a routine checkup revealed a multitude of tumors on his lungs, with the primary tumor originating in his right hip. Despite the daunting prognosis and uncertainty, Daniel chose to confront the challenge head-on.

Embracing Mindfulness and Joy
Amidst the uncertainties, Daniel’s favorite health tip was simple but profound – to embrace mindfulness and have fun. Delving into mindfulness practices and finding joy in everyday moments became instrumental in his healing journey. With his daughter Josie’s infectious laughter and the coined term “ULLABETTA,” meaning “laugh often, live well,” Daniel discovered the power of being present and relishing life’s simple pleasures.

Becoming His Own Advocate
As Daniel navigated the complex world of cancer treatment, he realized the importance of being his own advocate. Despite the medical expertise available, he recognized the necessity of actively engaging with his healthcare team and exploring various treatment options. By fostering open communication and humanizing the doctor-patient relationship, he found empowerment in shaping his treatment path.

Nurturing Positivity and Forgiveness
Overcoming his natural skepticism, Daniel learned the value of fostering positivity and hope in the face of adversity. While acknowledging the imperfections and challenges along his journey, he discovered the transformative power of self-forgiveness. Understanding that life’s uncertainties were beyond his control, he embraced a mindset of trust and gratitude, finding solace in faith and the present moment.

Living Fully and Sharing Wisdom
Today, Daniel continues to thrive, approaching each day with an unwavering determination to live fully and joyfully. His journey serves as an inspiration, reminding us to cherish life’s precious moments and remain resilient in the face of adversity. ULLABETTA has become more than a word; it symbolizes Daniel’s unwavering commitment to laugh often and live well, leaving a legacy of courage and hope for all those he encounters.

Daniel Wellington’s journey embodies the resilience and strength of the human spirit. In the face of life’s most challenging moments, his story serves as a testament to the power of embracing mindfulness, nurturing positivity, and finding joy in everyday moments. With only two months left in the year, it’s an opportune time to reflect on the gifts and blessings that have graced our lives, as well as to set our sights on finishing the year with grace and determination.

In the Book of Ecclesiastes, we are reminded that there is a time for everything—a time to sow and a time to reap, a time to weep and a time to laugh. As we enter this last chapter of the year, let’s remember that our days are in His hands, and that each moment presents an opportunity for growth, gratitude, and love.

For those who find themselves in the midst of challenging circumstances, grappling with the burdens of illness and uncertainty, remember that God’s love and grace are unwavering. Let us be a source of strength and support for those in need, a beacon of hope amidst the darkness, and a reflection of God’s boundless love for all. May November be a month of renewed faith, unwavering resilience, and abundant blessings for each and every one of us.

Blessings and peace,
The Believe Big Team

Update from Ivelisse

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

I got great news recently that confirmed our thoughts that my endometrial cancer was indeed caught early (Stage 1A). The pathology report showed NO LYMPH NODE involvement! Praise God!

What does that mean? The surgery is the end of it! However, I will continue to be monitored closely and follow the guidance of my integrative oncology practitioners. I am now five weeks out from surgery, no longer in any pain, and getting stronger each day thanks to the love and help of friends and family from near and far. Thank you all for showering us with love through texts, meals, gifts, flowers, cards, and more!

Interruptions, surprises, and unexpected news always present something for us. This diagnosis brought the gift of seeing the sacrificial love and servitude of Jimmy and our kids. It allowed me to see the courage in my 81-year-old mother who overcame her fear of flying alone so that she could come and help take care of me. I was able to experience the Lord’s peace and presence in a way that is difficult to explain. He carried me, sustained me, and rescued me.

On the flip side, there were negative emotions that I experienced and sometimes we feel bad for what we feel. We say, “How can I be upset at God?” But, it’s human to have these emotions. David is a great example of someone who voiced his discouragement in the Psalms, showed us how to pray during these times, and how to overcome. In all transparency, I was discouraged and upset at God. How can this be? My physician shared that I am one of the healthiest people she knows. I realize now that physically I was, but my soul was not. My health practices are what prevented a recurrence all these years and had I not been taking such good care of myself, especially with the Lynch genetics, I would have been looking at a completely different second cancer diagnosis.

It reminds me once again why what we do at Believe Big is so important. Every day we help patients move through the overwhelming process of treatment by bridging the gap between conventional and complementary medicine to heal in ALL aspects of life. Not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. We can sometimes be so focused on our physical health that we lose sight of how equally important our emotional and spiritual health is to our vitality. I was pushing so hard. Running from one thing to the next that I was pulling my soul along when I needed to slow down, rest more, and attend to disappointments, losses, and grief. “The pace of life rushes us past significant moments of disappointments and loss causing the “shollowfication” of our souls. We are like eroded stream banks, a little more shaved off each year.”

It’s what my wise friend, Sylvia from Spain, shared with me while in Ecuador before my diagnosis. As we were looking at a majestic waterfall she said, “Ivelisse, life symbolizes the waterfall. The life in our soul should elevate itself up to the sky; it should live at that level. When your soul is not strong it corporately falls along with your emotions and your physical body. If life does not continue to flow from it, cancer comes. One cannot lose oneself in life. Our lives need to continue to flow like living water. We are strong when we don’t lose ourselves to the world. Our souls generate that strength from God. Never abandon yourself because it’s that strength that allows us to help others. It radiates to the world like the sun. You need to fill yourself first so you can continue to pour out. That is not selfish. You can’t give what you don’t have.”

I am grateful for the timing of my diagnosis. It was at the end of my sabbatical allowing me to be in a much better place emotionally. The summer allowed me to work with my spiritual director to heal my soul. Life is crazy and can spin out of control and she gave me tools to live a restorative life and helped create opportunities for God to fill me.

As I celebrate my birthday today, I am excited for what’s ahead as I hold onto the words the Lord recently gave me.

“It’s time to dream with me and let go of the worries you have been carrying. This is a time when you will need to fix your eyes on me and nothing else. This is where my voice needs to be the loudest thing you hear and the rhythm of my heart the only thing that gives you purpose every day. Watch me clear the road for you, steady your ground, and ready you for the wide-open spaces again.”

Love you all so much!

Ivelisse

Unlocking the Hidden Potential of Glutathione: A Path to Holistic Wellness

In our quest for optimal health and well-being, it’s essential to explore every avenue, including the lesser-known wonders of our bodies. Today, we’re delving into the remarkable world of glutathione with the guidance of Dr. Lindsay Adrian, a naturopathic physician specializing in integrative cancer care and chronic conditions. Dr. Adrian brings her expertise to the table, shedding light on the incredible health benefits of glutathione and how it can revolutionize your approach to wellness.

Demystifying Glutathione: The Body’s Master Antioxidant
Now, let’s get to the heart of the matter—glutathione. This amino acid, produced by our bodies, is aptly named the “master antioxidant.” It plays a pivotal role in safeguarding our cells against the damaging effects of free radicals and reactive oxygen species. Additionally, glutathione acts as a guardian of our mitochondrial health, ensuring these powerhouses of our cells function optimally.

Elevation Sickness and Glutathione: A Surprising Connection
Dr. Adrian shares a personal experience of using glutathione to combat elevation sickness during a trip to high altitudes. By enhancing oxygen delivery and repairing cellular damage caused by low oxygen levels, glutathione proved to be a valuable ally in managing this challenging condition. She also recommends specific brands that offer high-quality, bioavailable glutathione supplements.

Glutathione’s Role in Medical Imaging: A Vital Support Tool
For those undergoing medical imaging involving contrast dye, glutathione can be a game-changer. It aids in expediting the removal of the contrast dye from the body, ensuring a smoother and faster recovery. Timing is crucial, though, and it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional to determine the right approach.

Exploring Glutathione Deficiency: Uncovering the Root Causes
Uncovering the Root Causes Glutathione deficiency is a concern for many individuals, influenced by genetic factors and exposure to environmental toxins. Dr. Adrian highlights the importance of addressing this deficiency, explaining how it can affect overall health. She also introduces strategies to support healthy glutathione levels, such as N-acetylcysteine supplementation.

Glutathione and Cancer: A Delicate Balancing Act
Cancer patients and survivors often wonder about the role of glutathione. Dr. Adrian clarifies that while it can be a potent ally in survivorship and secondary prevention, its use during conventional cancer treatments like chemotherapy and radiotherapy is discouraged due to potential interference with these therapies. Glutathione’s strength lies in cellular repair, detoxification, and immune system support.

Potential Side Effects and Risks: Navigating the Journey
As with any supplement, there are considerations to bear in mind when using glutathione. Some individuals may experience sulfur sensitivity, while others might face detox reactions, especially if their detoxification pathways are sluggish. Working with an integrative practitioner like Dr. Adrian ensures personalized guidance and support throughout the journey.

Food Sources of Glutathione: A Holistic Approach to Nutrition
While dietary sources of glutathione are limited due to its production within the body, certain foods can indirectly support its production. These foods, rich in cysteine and methionine, play a role in enhancing overall health. Dr. Adrian emphasizes the importance of whole foods in promoting well-being.

Dr. Adrian’s Clinical Approach: A Holistic Path to Wellness
Dr. Adrian’s clinical approach to using glutathione revolves around optimizing it for cellular repair, detoxification, and immune support. Whether you’re navigating cancer treatment or seeking to enhance your overall health, her expertise ensures that glutathione is used effectively and tailored to your unique needs.

Conclusion: Embrace Glutathione for a Brighter, Healthier Future
Unlocking the hidden potential of glutathione can be a game-changer on your wellness journey. As Dr. Adrian has shared, this master antioxidant has the power to transform your health by supporting cellular repair, detoxification, and immune system function. Remember, consulting with a qualified healthcare professional is key to harnessing the full potential of glutathione. 4. The Power of Nutrition
Nutrition is a game-changer in pediatric cancer care. Dr. Beine emphasizes the importance of nourishing the body with nutrient-dense foods. Don’t hesitate to ask for support from friends and family, who can contribute nutritious meals during challenging times.
  5. Individualized Care with Supplements
Each child’s cancer journey is unique, and so should be their care. Dr. Beine stresses the significance of individualized supplement plans. Tailoring supplements to a child’s specific needs based on their treatment and genetics can make a substantial difference in their well-being during cancer treatment.
  6. Low Dose Naltrexone and Mistletoe Therapy
Two integrative treatments, low dose naltrexone, and mistletoe therapy have shown promise in pediatric cancer care. These therapies can reduce side effects, enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy, and provide a holistic approach to treatment.
  7. The Importance of Terrain and Environment
Dr. Beine encourages parents to explore what contributed to their child’s cancer. It’s often more than “bad luck.” Environmental factors, genetics, and emotional stressors can play a significant role. Understanding these factors can guide families toward healthier choices and a safer environment for their child.
  8. Healing the Gut and Detoxification
Post-conventional treatment, focusing on healing the gut and detoxifying the body is crucial. Dr. Beine underscores the importance of this step in reducing late effects and enhancing a child’s overall health.
  9. Being Your Child’s Advocate
Dr. Beine’s journey reminds us that parents are their child’s most crucial advocates. Don’t be afraid to seek a medical team that supports integrative care, even if it means traveling to find the right team. Announcement to Our Believe Big Community

Hello, Believe Big family.

I hope that you all had a wonderful summer. I recently received some news that I wanted to share with you all personally. As many of you know from hearing my story, I have something called Lynch Syndrome. One in 300 people have this syndrome that predisposes them to several types of cancer and at an earlier age.

Because of this, I am monitored very closely with additional tests like yearly colonoscopies, ultrasounds, and endometrial biopsies. Recently, I got this year’s pathology report that shows that I have cancerous cells in my endometrium. The good news is because of my close monitoring. It is very, very early.

So early that nothing suspicious showed up in my labs. Jimmy and I have explored my best options along with our medical team, and it looks like I’ll be going in for surgery. At is, as it has a 95 percent cure rate, my integrative physicians have given me an amazing pre- and post-surgery protocol that’s going to help my body prepare and heal better after the surgery.

I’ll be sharing more about that in an upcoming podcast this year. I never thought I would have to battle another cancer again. But it’s exactly why Believe Big exists, to help people face, fight, and overcome cancer. I am so grateful that this time I am coming from a place of strength and peace with the knowledge I have gained over the last 15 years.

And I have an incredible network of physicians who are already helping me with off label drugs, tweaking my diet, increasing my mistletoe, and more to cut off the cancer pathways. What switched this gene on? I believe the coming weeks will bring more clarity as to why my immune system’s vigilance struggled, but I do know it’s partly due to the influx of estrogen from perimenopause as endometrial cancer is estrogen driven.

Here are three things that I have learned through this recent news that I believe are beneficial to us all.

  1. Be your own advocate. Whether you have had cancer or not, don’t miss your yearly exams and monitoring because should something change, you catch it early.
  2. Keep a healthy lifestyle. Because I’ve kept up with mine all these years. I am coming from a place of strength.
  3. Your emotional, mental, and spiritual health are equally important. I had an opportunity this summer to slow my pace and work with a spiritual director who helped me uncover that I had been moving through life so fast, without proper rest, and it prevented me from having time to attend to my disappointments, my losses, and grief. When we don’t process an emotion, we delay grief. And our bodies take on the burden when hard things happen. We shouldn’t feel like we need to put on a happy face because a certain time has passed, and we feel we should be over it. We need to say this hurts and it’s hard Jesus. I need you. We need to keep talking to him about it.

We are real. We are human. If tears come, we shouldn’t hold them back.

https://youtu.be/5Lmy6FUErlgThough this news was a surprise to me. I know it wasn’t to the Lord. Jimmy and I walk into the days ahead with peace, knowing that he is our strength. He is my healer, and he has already gone before us in the days ahead. Jimmy and I would greatly appreciate your prayers.

Embracing the Final Weeks of Summer Break: Intentional Parenting through Faith for Families Navigating Cancer Battles

As the final weeks of summer break approach, many parents find themselves reflecting on the season that has passed and looking ahead to the start of a new school year. For parents facing the challenges of cancer, preparing their children for back to school can be overwhelming. Balancing their own health and cancer treatments while ensuring their kids have a smooth transition back to school may seem daunting.

At Believe Big, we believe in the power of faith and intentional parenting to nurture children’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, especially during this crucial time. In this blog post, we will share how parents facing cancer battles can embrace the remaining weeks of summer with purposeful intent, fostering a deeper connection with their children through faith-inspired activities and meaningful moments.

Nature Walks and Gratitude:
As summer nears its end, take advantage of the warm weather, and immerse yourself in nature with your children. Plan family nature walks, hikes, or picnics in local parks or natural settings. As you stroll together, encourage your children to express gratitude for the beauty around them, fostering a sense of appreciation for God’s creation. Use this time to discuss the importance of being mindful of nature’s gifts and how gratitude can enrich our lives, especially during challenging times.

Engage in Creative Faith-Based Activities:
Consider crafting gratitude journals where you can jot down daily blessings or prayers. You can also plan simple art projects centered around biblical themes or stories. These activities not only promote bonding but also nurture your children’s spiritual growth through imaginative expressions of their faith. As you face your own health challenges, involving your children in faith-based activities can provide comfort and strength for the entire family.

Meaningful Discussions and Reflections:
Take advantage of relaxed summer evenings to engage in meaningful discussions and reflections with your children. Encourage them to share their thoughts, feelings, and questions about faith and spirituality. Use this time to impart your values, answer their inquiries, and reinforce the importance of faith in navigating life’s challenges. As you navigate your own cancer journey, open and honest discussions can create a supportive and understanding environment for your children.

Foster Acts of Kindness:
Intentional parenting involves nurturing compassion and empathy in our children. Encourage them to perform acts of kindness and selflessness. Volunteer together as a family or engage in random acts of kindness within your community. Teach your children that spreading love and kindness aligns with the teachings of faith and can have a profound impact on the lives of others.

Seek Support:
Reach out for support from family, friends, or support groups. Don’t hesitate to lean on your support network when you need assistance with school preparations or any other aspect of parenting. Surround yourself with understanding and caring individuals who can help ease the load during this time.

As we approach the final weeks of summer break, let’s embrace intentional parenting through faith, creating a nurturing and spiritual environment for our children. By engaging in nature walks, creative faith-based activities, and meaningful discussions, we can instill in them a strong foundation of values and beliefs. For parents facing cancer battles, these intentional efforts can deepen the connection with your children and strengthen your bonds through shared beliefs and experiences. May faith be your guiding light in every season of life, providing comfort, hope, and a sense of purpose as you navigate your journey together.
